I am so glad my first experience with Napa Valley included Castello di Amorosa. Our tour guide was wonderful and the wine was exquisite. Il Pasito, Gioia, La Fantasia, Bien Nacido, Il Baron…must I go on? There is no place like it.

Great people who make great wine and have a great location with wonderful occasions. They really do have the whole package!!

I also loved the wine that I came back to Florida as a wine member. The castle deserves to be in the top of winery.

They said after a favorite winery “lets visit a new one. We went, enjoyed the castle story, the wine and we did wait for three years before drinking and have come back every time we travel to ca. Last time we took the tour before embarking on a cruise to Alaska with family. Our son Jason and his wife, although couldn’t go on the cruise rented a limo and took my sisters and his sisters on a fabulous tour ending up ( save the best for last) at castello di amorosa. We all loved it ..thank for the memories

We were blown away by the quality of the wines. We have been wine club members since that time and look forward to every shipment we receive!

But for my money (wine taste and quality) Trinitas Winery at the entrance to Napa if my favorite, hands down. There is not one wine in their line up that is bad. I am not a white wine drinker, but theirs is fabulous!

I tend to do no more than 3 or 4 a day and tend to save the best for last. Coppola (Niebaum-Coppola) in Rutherford gave a very personal tour, taking you outside to a hill where you could get a good view of the owner’s home and one of the props left over from his film “Apocalypse Now”, and then upstairs to see his movie history, including his 1948 Tucker from the movie that starred Jeff Bridges. But if you want to be wow’d, you must drive north of Beringer and the former Christian Brothers (now Culinary Institute of America) to south Calistoga and see hat self-made winery owner Dario (Daryl) Sattui has completed after 15 years. Castello di Amorosa can’t be seen from the highway, but can be seen from Sterling Winery and the east end of downtown Calistoga. The winery is behind is authentic replica of a medieval Italian castle. Be sure to bring a camera! And I recommend you taste their Il Barone red blend.

We did a 4 day tour of 16 wineries and the very last one was the Castello after having a fine lunch at V Sattui. The one that stood out among them all was the Castello. The 90 minute tour was fantastic.. The torture chamber was mind blowing. The whole building structure is fanominal. The barrel tasting in the cellar was unforgettable as well. The tour guide was very knolligable and made every facet of the tour very interesting. We ended the tour with a wine and chocolate pairing tasting. After such a great tour we just had to have several cases shipped to our home in Idaho.
